Petrels + Talvihorros

Talvihorros is het muzikale project van de Britse geluidskunstenaar Ben Chatwin. Deze getalenteerde multi-instrumentalist gebruikt analoge geluidsapparatuur en bewerkte gitaarmuziek teneinde gelaagde en donkere ambient soundscapes te scheppen. Hij werkte eerder samen met gelijkgestemde artiesten zoals Tim Hecker en Barn Owl met wie hij een appreciatie deelt voor ruimtelijk ingestelde en gesofisticeerde electronische muziek.

Zijn laatste album “Eaten Alive” zal binnenkort wederom uitkomen op het vooruitstrevende en prestigieuze Duitse electronicalabel Denovali. Met deze zeer persoonlijke getinte plaat, laat Talvihorros zien dat hij zich heeft ontwikkeld van een experimenteel ingestelde gitarist naar een door de wol geverfde componist van electronische muziek. Zeker in combinatie met de beeldfragmenten van de visual artist Max Bondi, is zijn muziek een lust voor het oor en oog van eenieder die het muzikaal avontuur niet uit de weg gaat.

Net zo intens is de muzikale voordracht van Oliver Barrett, ook wel bekend als de geluidskunstenaar Petrels. Gefascineerd door het spanningsveld tussen het tijdelijke en het eeuwige, vervaardigt Petrels onvoorspelbare maar doordringende geluidssculpturen die het ene moment verrassend dynamisch overkomen maar dan plots wegzinken in subtiel gelaagde geluidslandschappen. Zijn laatste plaat “Onkalo” op het voorgenoemde label Denovali is de vrucht van deze betovering.

Deze artiesten zijn enkel voor dit optreden in Nederland dus dit keer niet gezien betekent lang tot de volgende keer wachten…

Petrels (UK)

Oliver Barrett is a musician and illustrator currently living in London. Oliver has most recently put out several releases under his 'Petrels' moniker on various labels internationally including Denovali, Tartaruga, and Patient Sounds. 

As a performer has played with artists ranging from Duane Pitre to Steve Beresford to Damo Suzuki. A multi-instrumentalist, Oliver's musical practice ranges from solo electronics, acoustic improvisation, band work, and sound art, to orchestral arrangements and song, drawing influences from a broad spectrum.

His last album "Onkalo" is the follower of the highly praised Petrels concept debut album Haeligewielle. Onkalo ('hiding place') is the name of the spent nuclear fuel repository currently under construction in Finland to house hazardous nuclear waste. 

Taking this as a starting point, Petrels second album - after acclaimed debut Haeligewielle - draws on a fascination with how we deal with what is left over, both physically and mentally. With this thread running through Onkalo, Petrels also takes inspiration from speculative science, immense time scales, retro-futurism, personal history.

Talvihorros (UK)

Talvihorros is the work of Scotland based experimental composer Ben Chatwin. He used to be Working with primarily guitar and analogue electronics and has now moved more toward electronics. He makes dense and dark ambient compositions that aspire to take in the beauty and chaos of the cosmos.

Eaten Alive is the fifth studio album as Talvihorros. Marking the move away from Chatwin's signature guitar sound into a wide-ranging electronic sound palette, featuring his most direct and uncompromising work to date.

Eaten Alive is the result of his encounter with Daniel Crossley. An album that focuses on the darker recesses of life, where bold melodic ideas fight with harsh noise and glacial ambience to create something organic, evolving and physically arresting.
