U'DUET

Haytham Safia is een virtuoos op de Arabische luit, ook wel ud genoemd. Hij komt oorspronkelijk uit Palestina maar woont al vele jaren in Nederland. Samen met de Soedanese percussionist Osama Mileegi vormt hij de groep U'Duet.
Safia werd vooral bekend als ud-speler in de ‘arabicana’-groep No Blues. Dat geeft al aan dat hij zijn inspiratie haalt uit verschillende culturen. Hoewel hij in de kern klassiek Arabisch musicus is, werken ook Blues, Balkan- en jazzinvloeden in zijn composities en muziek door.
Ook Osama Mileegi op percussie is een alleskunner. Hij studeerde af aan het Conservatorium van Khartoum in Soedan en heeft een fabelachtige techniek. Echt elke tik is raak. Hij speelt al jaren met Haytham Safia samen, ondermeer in het al eerder genoemde No Blues.
Dat de beide heren perfect op elkaar in gespeeld zijn is dan ook geen wonder. New Folks Sounds schreef al eerder over U'Duet: “snelle stukken wisselen af met langzame, de ene melodisch, de ander juist sterk improviserend op een grondthema. Het vakmanschap druipt er van af.
Razendsnelle tremolo’s, maar ook verstilde en aangrijpende tonen.”
U'Duet is niet alleen een duet, maar ook een duel, waarbij Haytham en Osama elkaar muzikaal de maat nemen. U’Duet brengt een set vol meesterlijke, spannende en enerverende nummers.
Unmatched cutting edge music
Haytham Safia is a virtuoso on the Arabic lute, also called ud. He was born in Palestine but lives in The Netherlands for years. Together with the Sudanese percussionist Osama Mileegi he forms the group U'Duet.
Safia became quite known as an ud player in the ‘arabicana’ group No Blues. That proves that for years already he gets his influences from different cultures. Although he is a musician of classical Arabic music at heart, also other influences from music styles like blues, Balkan and jazz are to be found is his compositions and music.
Percussion player Osama Mileegi is very versatile too. He graduated from the Conservatory of Khartoum in Sudan and is blessed with a fabulous technique. Every slap is bang on. He plays together with Haytham Safia for many years, amongst others in No Blues.
No wonder they are a perfectly, well-coordinated team. New Folks Sounds wrote about U'Duet: “fast pieces alternate with slow ones, sometimes melodic, at other times strongly improvising on a basic theme. The craftsmanship is superb. Very fast tremoloes, next to serene and touching tones.”
U'Duet is not only a duet, but also a duel, in which Haytham en Osama keep testing each other musically. Their set is full of masterly crafted, exciting and intense tracks.
