The Downbeat Detonators spelen ska en rocksteady geïnspireerd door de Jamaicaanse muziek uit de jaren ‘60 en ‘70. Met een vracht aan trombone- & sax-melodieën, rauwe orgelpartijen, meerstemmige skavocalen en ondersteund door een strakke ritmesectie gaan ze elk optreden aan alsof het hun laatste is. De groep speelt eigen werk maar laat zich inspireren door artiesten als Don Drummond, Prince Buster, The Slackers, Hepcat, Toots & the Maytals en vele vele anderen.
Met een uitgebreid repertoire zijn The Downbeat Detonators er meer dan klaar voor om elke zaal op z'n kop te zetten!

Liquid Sun Orchestra put uit verschillende muzikale bronnen. Tussen het weefsel van jazz, funk, soul, dub en reggae is de Nigeriaanse grootmeester Fela Kuti de rode draad. De band is een grote fan van energie en rauwheid in de muziek. En bij Liquid Sun Orchestra draait het vooral om het ritme. It’s all about the groove!
Met hun hypnotiserende ritmes, vurig kopergeluid en krachtige vocalen speelde deze boodschappers van de zon al op onder anderen Werfpop, Zwarte Cross, Houtfestival, Soulfest Antwerpen, en de Gentse Feesten.
Vanavond presenteren ze in hun nieuwe bezetting tevens hun nieuwste vinyl-uitgave!

Old skool ska & rocksteady and trancelike afrogrooves

It's Leiden time tonight, with two bands that already won their spurs.
The Downbeat Detonators play their own unique brand of rocksteady and ska, inspired by the era of Jamaican music during the 60s and 70s. Horn driven melodies, organ scorchers, sweet vocal harmonies and a strong rocksteady riddim section are the main ingredients of their explosive mix of ska, rocksteady, early reggae and calypso. The group plays their own songs, inspired by artists like Don Drummond, Prince Buster, Jackie Mittoo, Toots & the Maytals, Desmond Dekker and many many more. With an extensive repertoire The Downbeat Detonators are more than ready to take on any hall! It’s Detonation Time!
Liquid Sun Orchestra gets its inspiration from different sources. Within the fabric of jazz, funk, soul, dub and reggae, the common thread is the Nigerian legend of afrobeat, Fela Kuti. The band loves the energy and rawness in his music. It’s all about the groove!
With their mesmerising rhythms, fiery sounds of the horns and powerful vocals these 'messengers of the sun' already played at a.o. Werfpop, Zwarte Cross, Houtfestival, Soulfest Antwerp, and Gentse Feesten. Tonight in a new line-up they will present their latest release on vinyl!
